Definition: Struck with overwhelming shock or amazement; filled with sudden fright or horror


Etymology: (to frighten)From Old English, may have been evolved by the word " gǣstan", from gāst, ghost.
Sentence: The bystanders stood aghast at the sight of the horrific traffic accident.
