Boxcar


Boxcar Definition: A railroad car with roof and sliding doors in the sides that is used to transport goods


Etymology: the American term; the British call this kind of car a "goods van" while in Australia, they are usually referred to as "louver vans". Originally, the freight were hand-loaded. Historically automobiles were carried in boxcars.

Sentence: When I was young, I used to sneak into the boxcar. I didn’t steal goods but I just wanted to view the beautiful scenes when the boxcar was moving.
